Larian Studios Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
